I am new to 4WD driving and had just acquired second hand 80 series with part time system . I am just not sure if i can select low 2 without locking the hubs . In other words do i have to lock the hubs to select low gearing ? Is this system dsigned to operate in this way ?

If you select 4wd high or low range without locking the hubs you will still be in 2 wheel drive. In simple terms locking your hubs is what conects your front wheels to your 4wd drive train. With your hubs locked you can move from 4wd to 2wd on the move, you must stop to move from high range to low range. Cheers Rob

Peter,
No.1 priority. Join a 4WD Club.or engage in a course similar to what the previous contributor runs. You can then get out into the real country with confidence and safety. I presume most clubs have accredited driver training. Visit several first before you join (if available) to check out which club suits you. Goodluck Alpaca
