That is usually a dying starter motor, to be more precise, worn out bushes, under heavy loads the rotor moves to one side and sticks to the fields instead of turning, trying it again will sometimes work fine...

Get your bushes replaced and you'll be fine.

Goran diesel Cruisers do burn out the contacts in the starter. This will show up as an intermittent fault on starting with the starter just going click(happened to me twice with two different vehicles). Go to an auto-elec and get aftermarket contacts as the OEM are useless. If you are handy with the tools you can fit them yourself just ask the auto-elec how.

Not a particularly helpful reply, in light of Goran's earlier communications with David.
Perhaps we should all remember that what distinguishes most Aussies from many other cultures is a sense of fair play and thus giving someone a fair go.

Thanks for the help guys.I am taking the unit off in a couple of days.Looks at this stage as mud and dirt build up on commutator and brushes.

As Darryn suggested it will be the contacts in the starter, they are not very expensive and relatively easy to replace. Jim

Just as an aside, I am currently having what seems to be a related problem with my Hilux (starter motor-wise anyway). However, the starter is kicking over no worries, but the gear that slides up to engage the flywheel gets stuck a little bit and it sometimes take a couple of goes for it to sort it self out and fly up and engage and then kick the engine over. Not sure if this is of any use. Cheers, Sam.
