Parent's Nightmare

Hi all

Today some unfortunate family left a child behind at the Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta. 7 hours later, they still haven't returned. One of the risks of convoy travel if the kids are swapping between vehicles.

I'd be sweating blood if it happened to me. It was bad enough when we left our dog behind, and had to backtrack 2 hours to get him. I reckon I'd have to let someone else drive back if it was my kid.

We've tried to leave ours lots of places but they keep finding their way home, and still at home 21 & 25 y/o's. Nahh only joking, I remember going to one of the big shopping centres in Sydney when they were little and one decided to take the escaltor to the next level ,gone in a flash, wife was frantic until an announcment over p/a looking for lost parents.

Hi Jiarna from Birdsville - not the leastbit surprised!!! We have 190 people extra in town tonight and most are families and they have swapped kids and cars all the way. Hope the people come back!!!!

Just heard on the Radio that the lad was returned back to his parents. (mother actually) He was 7 years old, his name was Lachlan and his father is a GP in Melbourne. His mum is a GP also so that let you off the hook.LOL

Back last century in 88, we sent our kids off to school in Adelaide and then did a quick move up to the Riverland. Unfortunately, they found us again too. Just can't beat bad luck.

Dont they stop for toilet/drink breaks .you'd reckon they would have had a head count somewhere along the way . Just can't fathom that they would miss one for that long. Be interested to hear the outcome

In a quiet little farming valley, just west of Willem's abode, is the Pekina pub. It's well off the main drag up to the Flinders ex Adelaide.

If you have heard of Magnetic Hill, it's towards Orroroo from there.

I popped in, just for one or two, & got talking, on a quiet Friday, to the Publican. He & his wife had just taken over and had previously lived in Lobethal (a German town in the Adelaide Hills). They were about my age-ish.

So naturally I asked why they had become publicans at this stage of their lives. The response was:

"Our kids wouldn't leave home so we did........"

Ours left home....then they came back....each with an extra - then they left again, and finally I had a spare room and an office - (thankfully) they visit often - my son stuck his head in the pantry the other day....I asked him what he was doing...he replied "shopping"!...so of course I asked him to stay for tea.....but he still tucked a couple of cans under his arm - "emergency rations"!

.........missing a child for 7 hours! Just imagine the distraught parents when they discover the mishap.
