laptop power

Ok might seem like a silly question... but here goes anyay :P

I have recently aquired a laptop to run Ozi and just wondering what is the best/easiest way to power it.
I take it i will need a 12v - 240v inverter of some sort? and if so where abouts from and how much will it cost?

Im in Perth, so if any locals know of a good place to get it from ....

what brand of laptop and what voltage does the power adaptor supply. You may be able to plug it straight into the 12V outlet. I have been able to do this with a Toshiba that nominally eats 15V.

Jaycar have a power plug to suit. I Also bought a cig lighter plug and cable for about $7 and have a power adaptor for less than $10 plus a little soldering.rjallan

Jaycar in Newcastle Street West Perth.
300W inverter, around $140, I have been using it constantly to power my laptop.
Just plug the laptop AC adaptor straight to the inverter

You can buy a Switchmode DC-DC Inverter from Jaycar MP3462 for $89.50.

Output voltage features 7 different voltages to suit most laptops 15V, 16V, 18V, 19V and 20VDC @ 3.5A regulated and 22V, 24VDC @ 2.9A regulated

Much safer than having 240v inside the car !

Troy , i had a lot of problems with my inverter to power my toshiba TE2000
inverter kept tripping out every 5 minutes borrowed another off a freind to see if my inverter was at fault, and still didnt work with a 300 watt unit
whent to dick smith store and got a Kerio charger for laptops works perfect.
also makes more sense than going from 12v to 240v then back to 15v
was around 130$ i think from memory

I wasted a sh$tload of $ trying to get something that would produce 19V @ 5A and the best I could do was 19V @ 3.5A using a DC - DC converter from JAYCAR.

That was until I found out about the KERIO

The Kerio is the ONLY way to go if you want your Laptop to perform correctly and without and fear of a surge, spike, drag, jolt, fart etc etc etc.

Mine cost $89 in a DS store in Melbourne.

I have a 150watt Pure Sinewave inverter from Jaycar which runs the laptop. It is more expensive than other inverters. I also have a Kerio DC charger(plug in cigarette lighter) that works the same in case the inverter plays up(which has happened once).

the Kerio adaptor from Dick Smith Electronics is the best and most efficient unit for your vehicle.
The Jaycar unit in a previous post is not a high enough power rating.
