Rear Suspension Aids

Submitted: Monday, Jul 08, 2002 at 00:00

Des Fuller

I have a 1989 NF 3.ltr V6 Pajero Super wagon, and I was wondering if any one has tried "NO BULL Rear Helper Blocks they are about the same price as PolyAirs But would not have leakage worry's. Also has anyone fitted a HYclone to a V6? It goes well but loves to drink, I dont get much difference (17-19mpg) towing the Jayco or just cruising. Is there a Pajero tuner ( specialist) in Adelaide that I could go to. There is nothing in the Spencer Gulf area Thanks Des.

Look down the board--there is a thread about this. Just for the record I have Polyairs and like the adjustability (wouild like Rancho 9000's to keep up with the variable spring rate though). Mine have not leaked- there is a recommended minimum pressure to maintain. I think you'll find that any one who has Polyairs would buy them again. Ask the dealer do the "no-bulls" come into play straight away when you have a load on or does the vehicle sag down to them.(and you have to re-aim your lights).

Des - I owned an identical Pajero, (travelled 270,000kms and still in good condition when I sold!) much of our travelling was towing a Jayco, including atound Australia, Gibb River Road, Gt North Rd, Cape York. Polyairs were brilliant and were as good as new after all those Kms. If you are really getting 19mpg you are doing exceptionally well, I could never achieve that sort of economy! I was getting more like 13-15mpg when towing and carrying roof rack.
Cheers - Keith

Thanks for the prompt reply Andrew D & Keith. I see that the NO BULLS are fitted to sag the first 20mm till they start to take the weight. So I will be guided by your experience. Keith I have been reading lots of back issue Forum's and I see a lot are not happy with what they got for thier money with Hyclone So I will give that a miss. I have just done a trip to the Finke Desert Race from Pt Pirie via Oodnadatta, Finke ,Alice Springs, C/pedy , William Creek and home 3000ks And I averaged 19.2 Mpg for the trip so I guess there is not much to gain. We had all our gear plus extra tyre & 30ltr water plus all the camping gear etc ( No roof rack) and the Pajero dropped 25mm on the back ( it had Kings springs on it when I got it ( old owner has been around Aus twice with a 16ft Pop Top) Has now done 210.000ks So I will fit the PolyAirs and travel on. Thanks again Des.

Just one thing further Des. If your exhaust runs close by the spring make sure they supply a fabric heat shield thingo with the bags. Its a sort of fibreglass silvery cloth that attaches to the spring and deflects the heat. Usually they know which models of car need them or not. Mine has the exhaust modified for gas and hence needs it.
