By water trap, do you mean were the air filter is? If so my GQ has s small pocket at the back on the inside if you like, but if the water did get in it will just sit in there as there is no way for the water to get out.
But it does have what they call a water separation system build into the head of the air intake itself. Have a look at their website and you'll see what I mean ( http://www.safari4x4.com.au/docs/snorkel/air_ram.htm ).

I though the same thing when I first bought the car. I have since been through those car washes that just use a jet of water, and no water got through.

There is a water trap on the bottom of the primary air filter cannister, it is self releasing. The self releasing bit is a rubber ball with a split in on one side, mine was perished and cracked so I replaced it when I installed my snorkle, my choice, I would rather have it than not. I found it when fitting my Safari snorkle, I'm sure that part of the fitting procedure for the snorkle is to remove this water trap for water proofing. If it's any help my GQ was a 1992 4.2 TD ST, if the mod was year dependant.
