Yota auto transmission problems

Good morning all
I'm just a visitor top this great site - but $50 is looking great value once I convince the director of finances (SWMBO).

In the meantime I have a problem -
My 2000 auto V6 Prado has decided that after approx 15-20k into a trip it does not want to change down. Instead of a change I get a bloody great thump. Once I stop the car it starts to change again for another 15-20k.

Southside Toyota in Brisbane have had the car for 5 out of the last 6 weeks and can't find the problem in spite of running up over 300k. Yes it does it - no they cant find it. Contacted Toyo Aust to talk to them - but only response is someone will get back to me after contacting the dealer concerned.

Any suggestions (except swapping cars) would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to get back on the road and for a novel treat take a drive over 20k.

Few questions,
How many kms has the vehicle done.
Sounds like it is out of warranty regardless though,
Is it towing on the trip
Was it doing it before commencement without weight on it ?
Who normally services the auto, franchised " Oh What A Feeling " Dealer with apprentices who cannot be bothered doing something hard like auto trans service or PROPER auto transmission specialist who cannot get out of it but DOES what you took it there for.
If it was mine & Toyota had been servicing it I would get it onto a hoist @ Trans specialist today, could be just gunky filter, through lack of service on the TRANSMISSION, which is harder to get @ than the engine for servicing.
Has it got bigger cooler on than little standard one if you are " working it " towing in hotter conditions & prolonged periods on the trip compare to around town normal jaunts.

Problem first started approx 1,000klm after the 80,000klm service - coincidence??
does the same with the van on or van off.
Has the standard cooler - which has not been changes due to dealers advice against it.
Have not done any long trips with it (longest 150k approx).
I am told it has been sent to a trans specialist and there is nothing wrong.
I am told all contacts for thermostat and solenoids are ok.
I am told that the diagnostics does not show a problem.
At my insistance and expense all fluid was changed and new filter installed 4 weeks ago.

80000klm service was just after started towing and had only towed 80klm at that stage.

Stick with the " Oh What A Feeling " Dealer then naturally if still under their warranty,
coincidence sounds like something left off in a connection,
or maybe trans filter put back in wrong way & no breathing,
but if I was anywhere near trans specialist wherever you are still put on hoist & get him to look as Toyota Customer Assistance going back to Dealer who cannot fathom it already is a bit of a worry,
Ring John Laws today & say I took your advice & am Living the Dream,
but it is a nightmare because of Tojo I also bought on your advice & getting nowhere with your mates, & cannot go further than 20k a day
You may get surprise & quicker service than you are @ present

Ask your question on the 80 series list at www.lcool.org. There is a tranny specialist on there that will know whats wrong.
