Hi deb_daz,

I just went through a similar procedure myself.

I bought another 1997 Rodeo tray off Ebay never been used for $80 including lights, mudflaps, bolts, nuts etc. Not bad since the tail lights are about $275ea new.

However our company also has an old 1994 Hilux dual cab. I discovered that a current model tray will bolt straight on. The wheel wells are little further forward and it sticks about 10mm out either side further than before (your model does that standard). The front mounts need some spacers and longer bolts but thats simple.

I have seen your model with the current tray on it also. I have even seen an old Nissan 720 with a current Hilux tray on it that looked okay.

They are pretty cheap and if your ute is white you don't even need to respray.

You can pick them up for between $50 and $1000. Same condition it is just that some people are expecting way too much. I saw some hilux trays on Ebay for $300 to $600 starting bid but they never got a single bid. Could be worth emailing them and offering them $100 or so.

Try Toyota and the aftermarket tray manufacturers also.

Oh yeah, is your fuel filler on the cab or the tray. I know all post 89 Hiluxs are on the cab but before that I don't know also which side is it on. Rodeos are on the tray. Best check before you buy but would be easy to modify.

Good Luck,

Utemad

Me again. Just thought I would let you know that I was at a wrecker today and saw a pre '88 Hilux (squareish model) with a 1989-96 tray on it. I forgot to check the mountings but if the current tray fits on the previous model and the previous model tray fits on the model before that then I guess they are all pretty much interchangable.

most of them will fit with some minor mods but none look as good as the original i have an 85 twin cab & had the same problem i am in the middle of making one its like a tray with fixed sides that the conopy will bolt back onto & at the same time i built a spare wheel carrier & put a 135 ltr tank Where the spare was and being a flat tray with no wheel arches there is heaps more room
