Open your front window slightly as this pressurises the canopy and keeps a lot of the dust out. I have also added a very soft one inch thich rubber (from Clark Rubber) down the edges of my tailgate to limit the opening. Some dust still got in on the Oodnadatta Track though!

Mine has aluminium angle attached to each side with adhesive foam stuck to it. I find this works ok.

I have a flexiglass canopy and have had a forward facing vent(pop up and weather proof) put at the front of the canopy to force air into canopy
have completed plenty hwy ,old ghan ,odnnadatta and the flinders with minimum amount of dust in the back
Cost was $50 installed well worth the money

David we had a fellow away with us and he installed a small fan in the back and it pressurized the rear and it seemed to work ok.

as others have said " venting" the area helps. also on my rodeo with a big gap around tailgate i use 30mm square foam and wet it before it goes in, stops most dust

dunno what sort of ute you have but the tailgate on my lux is the biggest culprit... there is no seal - you can see daylight!

for the canopy you can get a squishy foam strip from challenge to put on your bed rails. you can also run a bead of silicon along your bed rails before fitting the canopy. both of these work great if you put the canopy on and leave it on but if it's off and on then forget about it.

if you want good dust sealing your best bet is to sell it and buy a wagon :)

On my old Hilux I Bent up 2 x 5cm wide plates & screwed them to the ute to overlap the gaps between the sides & the tailgate. I then filled the gap at the bottom with a tube of silastic, covered it with Cling wrap, then carefully closed the tailgate to form a perfect seal. After it dried I removed the plastic wrap then stuck some self adhesive rubber right around. When finished it sealed the dust out better than in the cab. Cheers Craig.............

Buy a roll of one sided sticky foam tape about 1 inch across and 1/4 inch thick. If you have a canvas canopy, run a strip around the outside top of the drop sides or styleside. There is a smaller thickness for placing around and in between the tail gate. Been to the Cape and many trips to Bathurst Bay and virtually no dust. Just came back from Bathurst Bay and towed a camper trailer with no seal around the tailgate, resulting in dust covered containers inside. Don't know the name of the stuff, but available from commercial hardware stores.
