I have been told that there is road which can take a 2wd normal car to the tip of the country,,, is this true? or is there only the telegraph road?. and if so is it still quite passable in a patrol. thanks.

Voxson,

There is the By-pass road that by passes all the river crossings on the north of Bramwell station. Yes it is possible to drive it in a 2wd. But it will be very slow and you wouldn't get much for the car afterwards. It is very corragated and full of dips. The telegraph track is passible in a Patrol andd is les corragated then the by-pass road. The term "passable" depends on your level of 4wd experience and what type of recovery gear you have. I wwould not attempt it with only one vehicle without havng a lot of 4wd experience and having a winch.

thanks cashy... my next question is, "if one was to get into trouble on their own (and having all the recovery gear with a winch), on the 4x4 only road, is it a well travelled track"?.....

Hi Voxon, anything is possible it just depends on your experience, skill and confidence. Why don't you call in and say hello on your way thru Cairns and we can fill you in on the road conditions, check out your vehicle and give you some training if necessary, cheers Rob. www.4wdtraining.com

Voxon,

The Otl is a reasonably well travelled road. It depends on the time of year. June - September is the busy time as it is the dry season. If you go in the wet well you will probably be on your own for a few months.

But if you had all the gear and knew how to use it you shouldn't really need anyones help, but it does make things easier to share a problem.

It sounds like i need to bite the bullet and just do it. That way i can give advise one day. It seems so harsh one one hand but with a great experience to be gained along with memories of a lifetime and on the hand it seems like driving straight into hell as described to me in this post i am replying to.
