Jackaroo 1998 Diesel alternator removal

Submitted: Wednesday, Aug 07, 2002 at 00:00

Sam Patrikka

Hi

Does anyone know the procedure to remove an alternator from a 1998 diesel Jackaroo. My auto electrician said for me to get the alternator to him as he reckons it is a difficult job.
Any help appreciated

Thanks

Sam, is it a 2.8 or 3 litre?
If a 2.8 litre, you have to remove the battery, then the air cond compressor, this itself is difficult, and then lay it to the side with out disconnection of the hoses..the belt tension for the alternator is under neath, so you will be working underneath and above to remove the alternator, also you have to disconnect the vaccuum pump at the rear of the alternator, it is a tight fit and the bolts/nuts are not at all friendly to access, have done mine twice, and am a mechanic by trade, and its a pain in the proverbial to get it out, if you are not mechanical by nature, go get your self an obliging auto electrician, as yours sounds like a lazy p@#%*!
