I have to disagree about Uniden being better value for money than GME. There is a huge difference between being slightly cheaper and being better value.
In my experience Uniden UHF's (not 27 MHz) need
servicing every year or two, for them to maintain their rated power output (that's around $30 each time).
I've never had a problem with my GME's and even the 5 year old one is still pushing a full 5 watts when tested on a power meter. And if you do have a problem then you can rely on the 2 year warranty, coz your dealing with an Australian company.
A local radio tech who sells both brands recommends Unidens, coz he knows he'll keep getting work (can we spell unethical?). The other tech and the 3 other shops that sell UHF stuff will only deal in GME or Icom.
