Evening chaps/ladies

Anyone been to Burrum Heads, Rules Beach. Would like to visit.

Camping ground or bush camp doesn't matter.

Will try and go on to Byfield Nat Pk from there.
Seen trek notes.

Any advice on where to camp... photos/trip on a website somewhere maybe?
....got a tinnie also.

Thks
Oddy

Hi oddy, never been to rules beach but we go a bit further south to a place called Norville Park. Good camping and it's free..camp behind dunes for wind protection and you can have camp fires too. to get there turn off at Yandarin on the Rosedale road and follow the brown tourist signs.Usually nice and quiet there except on weekends you might get a few Bundy locals. The only downside is that there is no fresh water availble, but when you need some just go back 10 km to Yandarin and fill up in the town park.It also has beach access for 4wd.Good fishing 2 km up the beach to a creek mouth, caught good size flatheads there myself.
have fun ...Govo

Hi Oddy,

I haven't been for a while but Burrum Heads is a nice quiet seaside village and is situated at the Northern end of Hervey Bay.

Heading North on the Bruce Highway continue past Maryborough until you reach a turnoff at a place called Torbanlea. When we were last there the turn was very close to a Mobil garage. It takes approximately 30 minutes after pasing Maryborough to reach this spot.

Once you get off the highway it is clearly signed to Burrum heads and I think it is about another 30 minutes drive to the town itself.

There are two caravan parks that I know of in town with one being absolute riverfront and the other being only a short walk to the river. From memory one of these is called Hillcrest Caravn Park.

The spot used to be good to catch a few fish and on the other side of the river is Woodgate which offers some 4x4 activities. On a clear day you can see the Northern tip of Fraser island from Burrum Heads. To get to Woodgate however you have to go back out onto the Bruce Highway and head North.

Burrum Heads has some local shops where you can get supplies and it had one garage when we were last there. It also has a pub for all your supplies in that area.

It is best described as a pleasant, quiet fishing type village and an ideal spot if you just want to get away from it all.

You also have good raod access to hervey Bay and Maryborough from Burrum.

I hope this helps a bit.

Cheers.

Oddy,
Your in my area of the world now. Burrum Heads is a great little place just 45 minutes up the road from home here in Maryborough. Woodgate is a good spot as well. You will neeed to stay in caravan parks in both places. In the Bundy area there arre a lot of diffrent beaches that are worth a look at. Try Mira, Baffle and 1770 these are in creeks therefore you have sheltered water for the tinny if you have one. Lots to do in the area away from the camp depends on what your into.

Rules beach is accesed through Wartburg, You take the 1770 road from Bundaberg, Camping is in a national park via the beach. The access is difficult and must be at low tide. contact the Bundaberg NPWS for permits and information. There is bush camping only. Norville Park is probably better in that you don't need local knowledge. Norville park is south of Rules beach. The two sections are seperated by Baffle creek.

I'm in Hervey Bay!!

It really has all been said above, 'cept that the Kinkuna National Park is just magic for a quiet, trouble free stop. You must be totally self reliant, there are no facilities, at all, and it is quite possible to go a number of days without seeing anyone

Yep, it's as great place, we try and get there once a year. If you camp to the southern end it's on crown land so no camping fees. But I guess you already know that being a local.

Hi Oddy,
You can camp at both ends of Rules Beach in environmental reserves. The south one is at the mouth of Baffle Creek (approx 1k beach drive) and the northern end is at the mouth of Mitchell and Deepwater Creeks (approx 7k beach drive). There are a few campgrounds along Baffle Creek and all are sign posted on the road that Graham described above. Baffle Bobs is a good spot with it's own private boat ramp accessing the creek. Baffle Farmstay also has a ramp but I've never stayed there. Further north you can camp in Deepwater National Park (See Discovery Coast trek note.) and there is a new low impact campground in the dunes just south of Agnes Waters.

The Ferns Hidaway at Byfield is/was a great place to camp but can get busy at weekends. (Haven't been there for a number of years) and there is a national park at Waterpark Creek next door.

There's photo's of Rules Beach on the trek note.

See ya
