if its typical nissan the single wire is the temp sensor for the guage .The bigger 2 unit one is the ECU unit and opertate on 2 temp settings.with the motor running unplug the larger unit and sell if the aircon fan kicks in full bore. If it does means its trigged the safetly map setting and if its a turbo fired the safety boost range.

Thanks, it's a 4.2 turbo diesel so won't have an ECU unit will it.

should still be the same set up thou....small one single wire is the guage and the large will control relay or if you had a ecu the aircon fan. nissan is very good that way most sensors and wireing is standardised.

Thanks, I'm trying to find out if the sender measures the temp of the coolant or of the conducted heat in steel/alum. I'm pretty sure it will be in coolant by the looks of the position.

If its the same as the GQ TD42, the sender is the one closest to the radiator, the smaller one of the 2.. Its a 10mm head where the other is a 14 if I remember.
