I'm home,

Enjoyed the company of some wonderful people. Willem, the tour guide, has the abiltiy to turn a drive into a wonderful, educational experience. Thanks Willie.

Our first day out, before the others arrived was sensational (not because the others hadn't arrived, just because the tracks were so quiet). With just three cars on quiet tracks we had a ball. There was just Willie and Uncle (what a fine gentleman), Andrew and Jenelle and their delightful children and myself and my son Stephen.

Day two was again led by Willem, taking us to see some wonderful sights, with a seven car convoy. The "high" point of the day was seeing Willem take a swim in his bright red jocks. If you've never had the pleasure of seeing that, you don't want to LOL; sorry Willie. Another wonderful day. Thanks again Willie.

Day three saw a nine car convoy attack the beach. Well, only four cars hit the beach (in very soft sand) before there was a bogging (John R unfortunately got stuck in the bad stuff after it had been chewed up). A two and a half hour recovery took place with the maestro Eric ensuring it went right.

This followed with lunch at Long Beach and a drive along the solid sand with the ladies (and a couple of juniors) taking the wheel. Just a delightful, peaceful, trip along a beautiful piece of beach.

And the evenings. Sitting aroud with a quiet one enjoying the company of some fine people was a joyous experience.

I had to convince my son to come with me (he thought it would be boring) and he can't wait to get out 4wding with his old man again.

Thankyou all (too many people to mention) for a wonderful three days. It was well worth the seven hours drive ether either way, and more.

I can't wait for the next trip. Fortunately I took many photos of this one to ensure I can relive it over and over again.

Good to hear you are back safe and well. Yep, a good time was had by all. We certainly have a new appreciation for the Terracan which excelled in the sand country and the driver got more confidence as the days wore on. Yes, I think I am going to regret the swim becaue Andrew has it all on video(I have threatened him with dire consequences...hahahaha)

The Terracan only excelled due to good advice on how to use it. Thanks for your guidance.

I have learnt so much from trips with chaps like yourself and Eric.

As for Andrew, if you want him to "disappear": I know people who know people LOL.

Yes Uncle is home and well...he lives about 1 kilometre from my place...he really did enjoy the trip and that worm story was so spontaneous......I have heard it before but he can tell it over and over again and everyone would love it!

Now that you have all left Robe, does that mean that you have all disRobed.
Good to hear that the weekend was enjoyable for all. It sounds like all that went hade a great time.
Seeing Willem in red jocks, there should be laws against it. I have not seen Willem, but Ruth at Birdsville Caravan Park decribed him to me the last time I was there. It would be nice to put faces to names, I am sure that so many people look a lot different to what they type like on this site.
The trips and gatherings seem to have taken off and I hope to get to go on one soon.

What seems to be common amongst this mob is that a majority of them are Big Blokes. I am one of the smaller Big Blokes..hahaha

I must say that after months of chatting on the forum, I had envisaged Ruth as totally different to what I found...she is such a sweet thing and pretty too........and very much likes to think my way of thinking.

We all have a common thread of course....fun, 4x4's, camping etc

John must have been trying real hard for a 2.5hr recovery. Recoverys are fun unless there's life or vehicles in danger.

Pleased you enjoyed yourself and you must be very happy finding a new navigator.

Eric reckons you haven't been bogged if there's no video to prove it.

ERIC GOT BOGGED.

There may be no video but there were a few (40ish) eye witnesses who can vouch for it.

The fact that he got stuck after numerous attempts to help others out is immaterial. He still got bogged.

In all seriousness, Eric only got stuck tryiing to get someone else out, who of course offered him the same assistance.

Top effort Eric and John R.

I can sit back and comment, easy as I was not stuck. My car was back on the track.

To some extent I reckon you are right, it just seems though that by going first after the Eric machine I gained or lost notoriety. The day is not complete for Eric without a recovery of some sort - just too boring. He really is a nice guy, welcome at my place any time.....

You seemed to get away so quietly this morning. Am so pleased that Stephen enjoyed the weekend too. We all enjoyed the mix of ages from two and a half to just over sixty and as mr diamond said so well, not a cross word.

I guess there is some embarrassment at getting bogged but as others said if it had not been me it may have been the next. Mr Lexic behind me or Lucy behind him.

The common thread has been the relationship building, the interpersonal extension through tripping, bogging and learning together. I look forward to seeing you another day as I do all the others...............

No embarassment in getting bogged, if it wasn't you it was going to be someone else; that beach was treacherous.

Sorry I didn't get to say goodbye. We finally slept in and it had to be the last morning when we wanted to get away early. We had to rush, as it was we didn't get home till nearly six o'clock.

Heather and I were saying goodbye to folks yesterday but had to leave off and do our own packing so I understand entirely. No offence taken at all friend. We eventually got home via the scenic route about 7.30

I just seem to have the notoriety for getting bogged or going into situations I shouldn't. Dear Ruth, observed barely a day west of Birdsville.

Was a fantastic weekend indeed.

A top weekend was had by us also. Some new faces put to names, and new friendships made. Some new lessons learnt, i.e. I hadn't seen multiple vehicles used with multiple straps as was tried and worked to an extent. Can't wait for the next trip.

john when you get bogged its never a problem as long as you do a good job we were over there 3 yrs ago the only tojo with 3 nissans (my boss) got well and truly on 1 beach right down to the chassis help was a bit slow getting to him as he bogged down 2m from a very dead seal PHEW!!!!!
