Hi All
About 10 years ago I was near Capertee and spoke to a local bloke who gave me directions to a great spot.

I kept no records or maps of the trip and would love to retrace my steps. This much I recall. I drove through Capertee took a left onto a track. The track followed the Turon in places, lots of gates (none locked).

We bush camped on the river bank (somewhere). Eventually ended up in Hill End.

Does anyone know if this area is still accessible?, is bush camping permitted?

And does anyone have any better idea than I do of where I am talking about.

Any knowledge on the area much appreciated.
Cheers

There is a track that goes from Lower Portland to Sofala then it would be the main road from Sofala too Hill End i don't know if it is accessible now the other track is Razorback Rd from Cherry Tree Hill then into Upper Turon Rd into Sofala then on too Hill End.

You are not imagining things, we did that track about 5 years ago from the Sofala end. Basically follows the Turon most of the way to Capertee. A few gates, becomes more like a fire trail in the middle part. I would imagine it is mostly Private Property with public access. Plenty of spots where people had been camping on the river from memory. Clearly showing on my 250K Raster Mosaic at the moment.

Hi Groove,

This sounds like the route I took last year. If you grab the topo maps of Capertee, Upper Turon, Sofala, and Hill End you will find your way easily enough. It takes you along the Turon River, Turon Gates, Palmers Oaky Ck, Upper Turon and then into Sofala and Hill End.

It was a great trip and one I will do again soon especially now the rivers have some more water in them.

Let me know if you need some more info.

Cheers
