Thanks for you response. Its seems that there is problems woth this motor. Apparently its a fixed motor that Jeep have put into a vehicle thus the vibrations etc cause everything to vibrate loose.....Ill keep you posted....Ive already had to have the turbo fixed as had several floating pieces inside that had come undone.....thanks again Alley

Yeah... no worries Alley :)

I guess the problem with the 2.5 turbodiesel in the XJ is that it was always considered a short-run hybrid (almost experiment), and never really got the development it should have. Typical Yanks were never into diesels as a rule, so this model was primarily whacked together for the European and Aussie markets. They've come a long way now though........ the 2.7 in mine is a pearler.

I have mates who have your model, and have flogged them mercilessly for years without complaint. Sounds like you got one that someone has had a go at....

I'd be more than interested to see what transpires over this Alley - so keep us posted!!

Also - go to http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com - and ask the questions you need to in the Cherokee forum - you're sure to find a pile of people that know what to tell you.

Cheers
Chrispy

Hi evryone.....
Just a follow up as promised....
I finally have my Jeep back and it is running great...
It appears that all the welch plugs were corroded. There must have been a fine leak which explains the water vertually disappearing...
They have alll been replaced....
May be I have been using the wrong coolant????

Maybe you guys can help me out with this????
And although this has been a nightmare of a year with this 4wd I really do like the vehicle and would like to keep it....
So fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!

Dave replied:

Hi alley,
have you tryed a Chrysler Jeep dealer?
The VM Diesel as far as I know is an Italian diesel.

Definately go to a Jeep dealer with this problem as I am sure they would be familar any problems with this model.

cheers,

Dave.

VM engines are made in Italy. The place makes engines which are sold both as Detroit Diesel and VM as both VM Motori and Detroit Diesel are owned by Daimler-Chrysler.

A Chrysler mechanic told the old man it would be cheaper to go to Detroit Diesel for engine parts for his TD Jeep.

hello Allley,
Range Rover were using these diesels in the late eighties, not for long though.
Give Dave a bell at British Offroad at Forest Glenn, he will be able to tell you who to go to on the Sunshine Coast, best of luck. gimme

ALLEY,
I had one of these in a Range Rover, the trick with them was the sequence , not the torque of tightening the heads, all four of them.
send me an email at :
mikm52 at hotmail.com
and I will give you a range rover forum to go to and ask the question again, someone there will be able to help you.
