Rodeo 2.8 turbo freeplay

Just adjusted the tappets on my engine and while I had the air intake plumbing off I gave the turbo shaft a feel for freeplay. Does anyone know the allowable sideways movement at the inlet side of the turbo impeller. I had 0.4mm with the engine cold. Thanks in advance for any info.

Dunno the numbers but my Triton turbo has a bit of slack and after 240,000kms
makes no noise. Local mechanic says they should last as long as the motor but of cousre that may be an idealistic view.

Hi Rowdy, Just in case you're interested, my mechanic has a 2.8 rodeo, which goes really well. All he did was put an intercooler on top of the motor with a Jackaroo air scoop on the bonnet, and re-routed the vacuum hose to the turbo, made quite a difference to power and torque. Before this he was as slow as all the other 4cyl turbo 4x4's, but now he leaves 'em for dead. It eats long hills!!

As for the freepay on the shaft, I asked him he said it sounds right.

Cheers,

Muzz

Hi guys, I came across this thread from a search. I've got a 2001 2.8td Rodeo that needs a power boost. muzzgit, you don't happen to know exactly how your mechanic re-routed the vacuum hose do you (i presume he has altered the way the wastegate actuates by doing this?). any info appreciated
many thanks
