Simpson K1 line and Warburton track

Has anyone travelled the Simpson K1 line and Warburton track recently ?? I went across the QAA and French Line last year so I know the time frame for going accross the dunes, this year I am planning to take the K1 line south from poeppel corner to the Warburton line and onto the Birdsville Track. How is the K1 line and what time frame to travel the 200 km's from from poeppel corner Birdsville Track ??

Not sure about the Warburton track but back in July we travelled the K1 line from the rig road intersection to Poeppel's corner in 1 and 3/4 hours (about 87kms). Easy road with quite a bit to see.

Patrick, it is basically 2wd with a few soft dunes (mainly sand blows) down the bottom end towards the Warburton flood plain. Travel south from the rig road is a bit slower than the rig rd to Poeppels as the track winds around the edge of salt lakes and can get very bumpy and soft especially at the moment with the country extremely dry due to the lack of rain over the last 12 months. I was out there in July this year.

We travelled the Warbuton in June this year and itis very dry and bulldusty. The photos of the dry crossing etc are all within our journal notes on this site. Your choice of route is excellent - the K1 is a favourite with the locals for its diversity. The sand colours are very different, there's even a white dune!

We went last week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from Birdsville, down the Inside Track, out to the Outside Track, up the K1 and camped int he Dead Forest the first night (just short of the Rig Road), then along the Rig Road up the Knolls Track (very very bumpy last week and slow - but the NP Rangers camp through there yesterday and the high winds over the past few days have all but covered over the rocks and it was easy travelling) and out onto the French Line and camped at Poepples the Tuesday night - home along the QAA the third day. Very healing and restorative after the Races. You are lucky that the high winds have filled in the corrugations and scalloping on the dunes on the French Line, please please remember - lower your tyre pressure, High Range and enjoy yourselves. It was slower than usual though. Oh yes, the human waste and tissue paper was unbelievable - absolutely everywhere, not even trying to hide or dig. Oh yes, there was also - one trailer,(no, two trailers), one roof rack, one camping kitchen sink fold-up thing, five Castrol drums and other assorted drums and personal rubbish.
Hope you enjoy the Desert as much as we do - it's magical even dry.
