I bit the bullet and changed the tyres

Submitted: Tuesday, Feb 01, 2005 at 18:56

Member - Algee (NSW)

Well after all the great advice I bit the bullet and changed my 265/70's for 275/70's. Because I wasnt happy with the wear on my rear 265/70 Bridgestones they gave a $80 each refund on the rear 2. The only problem with that was that I had to buy Brigdestone again. The funny thing is all the advice told me that the speed on the speedo would match the GPS better with the bigger tyre. Not so, I am now 6km per hr difference btwn speedo and GPS. 80 on speedo reads about 74 on GPS. Doh

All the advice was for 265/75 tyres I thought, I have them and the speedo is spot on. Its the 75 profile that makes the tyres a little larger, also allows that little extra rubber between the rim and the road when theyre deflated for tracks and sand etc.

Can you take them back and get the 75's?

Also a 265*75 is more readily available around the traps.

Hi Bonz (vic)
talk to your tyre people about wheel balance on your vehicle ther is four ways too balance the wheel 1 is stacic not verry good 2 dynamic pretty good 3 on vehicle balance very expencive 4 put a packet of beads in the tyre used on 20 inch or so and lager could be up to $25 to $30 per tyre which will make the tyre wear evan

If you were unhappy with b'stones, why on earth would you go back with them?

They are famous for being a good tire, but wear out faster than an election promise.

Was the trade back worth it?

Well Truckster, sorry to dissapoint you but I still have a set of D693's as well as a set of D 694's that we recently used on our cape york trip with "Algee" and my D693's now have 50,000k on them and I expect at least another 10,000k, I must say I am surprised but happy, and they have had their share of offroad work.My D694's did the same work as "Algee" (and only look about 15/20 percent worn), so at this stage I have to say I am happy with Bridgestone. Tyres are a can of worms and I guess to each his own, everyonr will have a good and sad story.
For my part the election held true, must have voted for the right party!!.but lets not get into that.
Regards

He is the one saying he was unhappy with the stones.. if your unhappy with something, why would you get them again?

if you have a bit of a read around the place you will see 90% of people trade their tires from stones before they take delivery of the car.. same on the patrol list tis highly recommended.

50/60,000 isnt riveting klms from a tire but thats IMO... :D

YMMV.

50 or 60K is plenty from any tyre, get bored with them by then any way and want to change regardless. Rubber doesnt last for ever anyway, wouldnt like 3 or4 year old tyres on my car.
