charlies

Can anyone advise where I can get a "Rear Stabilizer Bar - Release Kit" for a GU Patrol?
It is standard fitment on UK version but not many understand what I am talking about locally.

Thanks
Charlie

I've got one of those, I think the other name I gave it was a Rachet. LOL

I just took the stabalizer bar off the surf, never looked back. I kept on braking the sway bar brackets.

G'day Charles

I've taken both sway bars off my GU and it is quite okay. There is a little bit of extra body roll, but nothing too bad (bit like driving a range rover..hahaha). Admittedly, I do have quite heavy duty springs with 4" of lift as well as Polyairs in the back which, when aired-up a bit, do also tend to limit body roll.

I'd suggest you remove the sway bar/s and take it for a drive without them. See what it feels like under various cornering situations.

Good luck,

Roachie

Hi Charlies

I got a rear one for free with my GU !!!! Rotated my tyres last weekend and while the rears were off, I noticed the LHS rear stabiliser connector to the chassis was missing a nut and was lying across the rear axle.

I hadn't noticed any difference in road handling, but there was a fair bit of scuffing on the inner guards where my tyres (285/75R16) had rubbed. In the previous ~30,000kms I had barely kissed the inner guards with my tyres, but now there is noticeable scuffing. Much improved articulation :) Funny how I couldn't find a nut to put it back on, maybe I will mention it to Nissan on the next service...NOT

Thanks Captain, I had the same problem. Unnoticeable at low speed other than a lot of rattling. I still like the idea of having a rear bar for the highway stages.
Your tyre size sounds huge. Have they distracted from initial take off around town?
I know mine is a slug 0 to 10kph. Not a problem or even noticeable in the bush. Nevertheless I wouldn't want to lose what little acceleration I have.

Hi Charlies,

My tyres are 33" equivalent compared to the standard 31" tyres. The end result is a 7% difference in gearing (but the speedo is now spot on!)I have a Dtronic that increase power by 20% overall, but by an even larger amount down low. For example the old peak torque of 354Nm @ 2,000rpm is now at ~1250rpm. New peak torque is now 420Nm @ 2,000rpm. Basically I have no issue with low end response now, except when towing.
