Over-sized tyres - Holden Frontera 5 Door

Does anyone out there have experience with fitting non-standard sized tyres to a Holden Frontera? I'd like to fit 31 x 10.5's, but my tyre supplier (Discount Tyre Service) is concerned they will foul on the wheel arches - despite at 55mm suspension lift. I've seen at least one other Frontera with this tyre size fitted. Any feedback appreciated!

Find someone with a set to try out. Maybe Tyre service could put a set on to see what they look like. I am surprised that your Frontera has smaller tyres than this anyway! Cheers Royce

Thanks Royce. Th Fronteras come with what are roughly 30" tyres (or the metric equivalent). DTS did put on a set of 31's to see what they look like - and they'd probabaly be okay on road, but their concern is fouling under articulation. (I don't plan to stay on the blacktop.)

Max, try asking on the overlander site. There is a guy there who extensively modified his Frontera, he would be in the know.

Before going for the larger tyres check out the regulations. Here in Victoria Vicroads state that the tyres cannot exceed +/- 15mm of your largest tyre stated in the vehicle specifications. If you do the vehicle is unroadworthy and your insurance company can refuse any claims.

Hi Peter,

And thanks.

Same deal in QLD ... though it seems to be something that a lot of people choose to ignore.

Spotted a site recently featuring a bunch of modified Fronteras - most with 3" to 4" lifts - and all had 31" tyres ... and several of them were from Victoria.

Think I'll wind up staying with the standard size - though the Cooper STT is about 5mm larger in diameter than most other brands - due to the deeper tread depth.

Cheers ...
