285/75/16 tryes rubbing at full steering lock

I have just purchased 4 tyres (285/75/16) for my Prado. At steering full lock they rub on the mud flaps. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do to alleviate this problem. Would a 2" body lift help? any help would be appreciated.

I looked at 260/75/16 and they are about 38mm bigger in dia. than standard issue. and not enough clearance I dont think a 2" lift would change much , if the body goes down and the suspension is up u might rip of the flares try the "Prado site" u should get a good response from them yahoo "90scool "

Peter I think you should stick to the right sized tyres! The standard tyres on a Prado are more than adequate.

Get rid of them! If they rub now wait till you are at full lock travelling on rough ground.

Peter, I have a 2000 Prado TX and have a second set of GXL steel wheels with 285/75/16 tyres fitted. I also have a 40mm suspension lift and have no problems with them rubbing on my guards. Clearance is tight but still enough even under extreme 4wd conditions on full lock with suspension fully compressed. If you really want to use them a 2" suspension and a 2" body lift should allow you more than adequate clearance otherwise you will have to go back to original size. Cheers Tony

As they havent been on the road yet, i think i will try and return them to the supplier where i purchased them. If he wont take them back i will try the body lift as i already have a 2" suspension lift. Thanks to you all for your input as it was most helpful.

Slunnie, The mud flaps are a molded type amd unfortunately dont look as if they can be replaced with an alternative type or repositioned. I have spoken to the guys at Tyre power and they will gladely exchange them for the smaller 265/75/16. Thanks everyone for your help.

a coupled of things you could look at
1. 2" body lift 2. different wheels with a different offset
i put 32" on my 85 pajero with 2" body and lift kit and different
wheels with different offset. goodluck
