If you follow the fuel line out of the fuel filter into the fuel injector pump, where it attaches to the injector pump.
You have to remove the bolt which is a banjo type, no need to remove the pipe but be carefull not to drop the washers, stick you finger inside the banjo (usually only the little finger fits) and there is a very fine mesh filter, designed to catch the very fine lint which may come out of the actual fuel filter.
You just clean it up and put it back on...
The filter hardly gets blocked but Nissan had a batch of fuel filters which released this fine particles so the banjo filter became a known issue.
If you don't feel you can do it, take it to your mechanic (does not need to be a diesel mechanic) and show him what you need done.
