New Landcruiser purchase advice!!

Hi all,

I want to buy a new Landcruiser trayback but I am not sure whether to get the standard diesel or the turbo.

I am prepared to pay the few extra grand for the turbo but I've heard that if the turbo did break down I would have problems sourcing a reliable mechanic away from the bigger towns.

I want the turbo because of the extra power it offers but is it really worth it?

The vehicle would be mainly used for remote area travel.

Any advice would be appreiciated.

As you can see I am in NZ but spend a lot of time in Aus driving.
I would opt for the Turbo version, much better for long distancedriving and power to spare when required.
the turbo is a very reliable unit, it only requires a little thought from the driver at start up and shut down.
Although the the engines are different ( turbo vs non turbo ) they really very similar and and most of the electrics are the same I do not think you should have any problems.
My thoughts any way

Buy the Turbo.
Toyota's reliability with these motors are second to none.

Have a look around Alice, just count how many turbo and non turbo yotas there are in and around town, Unreal the numbers of them.

Seems about every second vehicle in Alice is a Toyota of one sort or another.
Virtually all the outback stations run them in both versions and have no difficulty with maintenance in remote areas as the product is very well supported.

By the Turbo, there are not any major reliability issues with this motor.

If you buy the non turbo you will regret it for the rest of the days that you own it, especially once loaded with a bit of gear and you want to overtake a truck or that person towing a large caravan with a small car.

I have a non turbo and don't need go faster gear. But I'd like a turbo for the extra grunt etc.
Although there are some standard owners who deride turbos, I've never heard a turbo owner saying "golly gee I wish I didn't have the turbo on " :)))

We've got one of each here, and the turbo wins hands down. Really boogie when required, and more economical than the n/a model, under 110 kph.

The turbo is a lot nicer to drive around the bush too, very tractable, and can idle over rough stuff, that the n/a would need low range, or a heavy foot.

We've done nearly 90K clicks with ours, and only problem has been a dent in passenger door. Steer's arse.
