4wd on Ghan train?

Submitted: Monday, Nov 06, 2000 at 00:00

Craig

Has anyone put their 4x4 on the Ghan? I have a Defender with roof rack etc. I plan to rail to Alice then drive back via the Simpson (been there before) next year. Time restraints are the reason for this.

Craig,
Ihave put my vehicle on the ghan from Alice to Adelaide & return. Single deck carry. Only problem may be vandals throwing rocks at the train through Adalaide. We suffered some damage this way. Other then that, a fantastic journey by train. Sit back & enjoy the ride

Craig I travelled on the Ghan with a Nissan GQ with roof rack, no problems at all. They have a flat trailer to put larger vehicles on. Take a pack of cards with you, its a long night. Unless of course you are trvelling 1st class, You will have fun though. Edwin
