4Runner Tacho Problem

Hi all, I have a 2.8D 4 runner and a while back the tacho buggered up. It still works from 0 to 2750 rpm but as the revs continue the Tacho doesn't , it just sits at 2750. Any ideas as to the cause, fixit solutions, or am I better of replacing it?

have you tried ramming your fist towards it?? this does happens on cars sometimes could be anything really dust. something making it sticky.. who knows?? its a pain in the butt, but have you tried ripping the dash apart and inspecting it..
