I would like to speak to someone with knowledge about the 12HT toyota landcruiser turbo diesel engine as I am considering the pros and cons of replacing my 2H with one. Also, does anyone have any other suggestions for a suitable replacement.

Excellent and reliable engine.
Some opinions are the best toyota ever made. They go for ever.
Can I suggest though that if you buy an import one replace the rear engine seal prior to installation. It could save you a bit in the long run.

I had a 60series cruiser with the 12HT motor in it and IMHO it is the best motor Toyota ever produced. It is strong, fuel efficient and it's longevity is expected to exceed 600,000ks. The only problem I encounted was with the splitting of the rubber hose connecting from the air intake to the turbo. The mongrels screw you because each end is a different size and the replacement cost was $400 around 5 years ago.
Apart from that, I'd recommend the motor.

G'Day 12HT,
Haven't had much experience with them myself but a good friend of mine was with toyota in the mechanical area for years and has always owned toyota's and he can't speak highly enough of them. In his opinion it would nearly rate as not only vurtually indestructable but would come close to being one of if not the best turbo diesel engines ever released by them other than the curent m/v turbo of which he has not had much to do with. As for replacing a 2H with one I myself have had enough to do with them to say that you would be suitably impressed and would never regret such a move [even though the conversion would cost you a few bucks].

This is one of those sad stories that you hear of from time to time [sobsobsobsob etc]. The only photo I have is in my mind yes thats right I only Have precious [sobsob] mem[sob]ories[sobsobsob]. But there is one way that you might be able to assist me in finding my little mate[sobsob] and that is if where ever you are whistle and call here boy etc. maybe one of the dogs that come running might be my little buddy!!!!!!!!

Yep, great engine, and is a relatively easy conversion.

Had a mate who swapped his 2H for a 12H-T in a 60series, and it set him back about $13,000 all up about 2 years ago. I would have thought he would have been better off buying a HJ61, and selling the HJ60, but I guess he had his truck fitted out.

My HJ 61 12HT has done 480.000 kms and is still not burning any oil. It still drives like it did when new. Indestructable engine.

It would probably be cheaper to pull off all of your good bits, sell the car and buy an import with the 12HTmotor. I have seen mint low km vehicles (under 120,000 kms) for about 12 grand. These are ex Japan and are like new cars. You will get one fully optioned and with as new paint. Some are 24 volt however it doesnt matter as you can buy a voltage changer to run 12 volt accessories for only a couple of hundred bucks that will run cb's, fridges and sterios. If I was in the marjet I would go an import.

I wouldnt stuff around with a conversion as you will have to change exhaust, fuel lines, clutch area and maybee even talishaft lenghts. If you do a search you will be able to get the info about this. someone answered with all of the details in the last couple of weeks. If you could be bothered doing this I believe that some Toyota dealers have brand new motors available. I dont think that they have fuel pumps and a few other ancilliarys thouhg. They are basic blocks with heads so you will have to chase up all of the parts from wreckers.
