The SST is a mud tire so is going to be a little louder, you didnt mention what use you wanted the tires for..

Hi Ian,

We recently fitted Cooper Discoverer A/T 265/75 to our GU Patrol. Went with them after looking at other options but in the end Cooper A/T's won us over with a tread pattern and decent side walls that we felt were good for both on and off road. So far, this has proven to be the case. Considered the S/T's but decided the A/T's better suited to our needs of 80:20 on/off road.

We were happily surprized with the feel of the A/T's on the car. Very smooth, no noticable road noise, look good and 80,000km warranty to boot.

Bloke I know has S/T's fitted and reckons they are more resistant to stone chips etc. STT's are really a mud terrain tyre so you can't expect the level of on road performance/feel that you would get from the A/T's or S/T's. Unless you do a lot of mud driving, I wouldn't bother with them.

I have driven on many tires in over 30 years of 4wdriving. I would rate the Cooper ST as the best compromise tire I have driven on. Comfortable soft ride despite strong sidewalls, very quiet for such an agressive tread pattern, very good on wet bitumen as they are siped and a beautiful handling steer tire. I replaced mine after 53k very hard klms and they were still roadworthy. I currently drive on MTRs and had previosly driven on BFG ATs for over 20 years.

Coopers....well how about 30k from a set !! My dealer looked after me without a hassle... but I know he did it off his own bat.. heard him make the phone calls ...(he wasn't impressed) .....I won't be in them again !

I have ST 245 x 75 16 fitted to my Series 1 disco, great bite on the tracks, better in mud than all terrains in the a little noisy on the tar but not too much turn up the radio. I have done 20000kms and cannot see any wear. I asked Cooper directly for pressures and maintanance instructions.

Several reviews are around this web site has 1, "Truckster" mentioned another and Vic Widman trialled them as part of his tour operation acrossoz.com.au on that site BFG & ST were compared against one anther under the exact same conditions same car, same weight, and same journey.

My vehicle has Old Man Emu coils and shocks which helps fitting the larger tyre than the standard 235 x 70 16 and I know Coopers has this ST tyre now available in the 235 size but I understand there is a difference in strength.

Yes read the fine print but most manufacturers have fine print. Tyre maintanance is important rotate and balance.

You must look at what you offroading you do and evaluate you needs if you do alot of mud get mud etc.

Im sure you will find air pressure will play a signigicant part in reducing or extending a tyres life on a 4WD - no matter what the breed. Ive explained a few techniques for optimising pressure for weight - (just do a search about mid august and in june). Lots of theories make up your own mind.

I've a Defender TD5 with standard Michelin 4x4's fitted and they are great tyres! Why not see if you can get them for your series 1?
