Fuel Consumption

Submitted: Thursday, Nov 07, 2002 at 00:00

Michael

Has anyone had any success getting any reasonable fuel consumption out of a 3.9 Disco on gas. I have had the injectors cleaned, dino tuned and it still uses around 22-24 litres per 100 K, which is not a great range on a trip.
I was wondering about alternate engine management systems, or injection systems.

Any suggestions

Regards Michael.

Michael the cleaning the injectors will not acheive much because LPG doesn't use them to deliver the fuel!!

Have you got a roof rack on the vehicle?

Some roof racks are unbelievable dogs in the fuel consumption stakes.

Wow, yes, 4.X k's per litre. Hell, no wonder you are complaining.
On my wife's car which we often take to Melbourne or long highway runs we get usually 18 to 19k's litre, and if it is raining and travel slower, have had up to 21k's litre, which would be 5 litres per 100km.

I am complaining that my new Triton 2.8 L only gets 11 to 12 km per litre, which would be 8.5 to 9 litres per 100 k's

OziExplorer, Is your wife's car the same as in the original question? Or are you comparing apples and oranges?? I frankly can't imagine a Disco on gas getting 5l/100 .... and comparison with a different vehicle is meaningless. I've used an Echo which easily gave 5l/100 at highway speed - perhaps that's the sort of vehicle you're speaking of?

Mick, If my wife's car was a Disco and getting 5l/100km's it would be on the front page of every newspaper world wide. My wife's car is a Diahatsu.

OK Ozi I understand ... but I'm still not sure why you chose to tell a bloke looking for info about a 3.9 Disco that your wife's car is economical LOL. Oh and for the Disco owner, the TD5 is very economical - Oodnadatta to Birdsville through the Simpson on just under 90 litres (700km) but I guess that's irrelevant too!!
