Oztent

I am considering buying a second hand RV3 oztent that is 7 years old. The asking price is $500. Firstly is this a reasonable price and secondly do these tents develop leaks with age? Apparently this tent has travelled a lot but is still in good condition. Maybe I should buy a new one for $900.

They are a great tent and very easy to erect
They do hold their value very well - I remember when I purchased mine I looked at several second hand ones.
Check the zips and seams for wear as well as the metal/alloy parts. If they are in good nick you should not have a problem

If he's got a few extras to throw in with it? Seems a bit steep especially if it's been used plenty, but if you've had a good look at it and it seems ok then thats 400 clams for you to spend on other stuff.

$500 would be reasonable if it has all the zip-on options (side panels X 2, front panel X 1). New they are about $800 + $350 for the add-on panels.

check the floor area and "lintel" area across the front for chafing of the canvass from the aluminium tube, and little things like the peg loops and rope anchorage points for torn stitching.

Set it up at his house to make sure everything is there.

Thanks everyone for your help. I too thought the price was a bit steep, hence my question. Apparently there are no extras. I think I'll wait a while to see if anything better comes along. I'm also considering a Black Wolf Turbo tent.

I bought a second hand cheapie tent that is similar to this, the same two pole type setup for $100 out of the quokka (trading post). It's absolutally fantastic and if it ever shts itself I'll be heading down to the local coleman supplier and getting one of these.

Personally I'd never seen a tent like it before and wanted a single pole but was worried about interior space, but these are so easy to put up and there are no poles inside whatsoever.

BTW most of the time you wouldn't bother roping or putting those poles out the front, you'd just put in for pegs and the two poles on the side and whamo she done.
