Map of Australia

Submitted: Wednesday, Jun 01, 2005 at 21:47

Des Lexic

G'day Folks,
I'm after an A4 size map of Australia preferably in colour and showing capital cities and the main rural towns etc.
Basically, it is to show family etc where we are going when we head bush.

Does anyone have a link to a site that I can download a map and print it off.

Many thanks for your help

Alpaca

Dont mean to boast but I was given a Geoscience Australia block mounted map of OZ which is about 1.5m x 2m which I draw my travels on. It was going to be thrown away by work so I snaffled it. only problem is there are to many spots without my texta lines on it yet

there are some pdfs, including an A3 map of Oz, on this NRMA page

the good thing about them is that they have bokmarks for easy searching.

Des,

Just had a very quick play with the mapping system at ExplorOz and came up with these options:

Map @ 1200 x 800 pixels
Map @ 1500 x 1000 pixels
Map @ 2000 x 1500 pixels

Given some more time I would be able to enable other layers to add colour items, more town names etc etc. Maybe I should add an A5, A4 & A3 maps of Australia for download/print in the mapping system.

You could use this and just print off a few pages with your planned route on them. Great for trip planning as it gives shortest route, most direct route approximate travel time and distance.

Some more to add to the listing...

There are some 'good value' resources available at the FREE section of our national mapping agency http://www.ga.gov.au/map/images.jsp#topo .

If you need more detail, the 1M scale map is a great more detailed map that is accurate and available at low/no cost.

If you are interested in the subject (and further detail) there all the Ozie 250k scale maps FREEly available in Vector format and all the geological 250k raster maps FREEly available from links off this same site. May be too much detail/effort for what you are after.

Cheers
