Low voltage cutouts

Submitted: Tuesday, Nov 12, 2002 at 00:00

Nige

Does anyone know of the availability of an adjustable low voltage protection device that cuts the 12v supply when the battery reaches a pre-set (or fixed) level? Engel have a 10.5v and an 11.5v battery cutout for about $100. Are there any others out there that can handle the high amperage needed by chescolds to make them work efficiently? Thanks!

D*ck Smith Electronics have:

From website: www.dse.com.au
Ideal for car or boat when powering external accessories.
Disconnects the load from the battery once the voltage drops to a predetermined level
Adjustable drop-out voltage: 10.9 to 11.9 volts (nominal)
Can be set to automatically restore power to the load when the battery returns to normal condition

It is a simple kit to build.

Yep, have used one of these for the last couple of years, works well. Can adjust the cutout voltage via a variable resistor. Be aware though, that over rough roads, the variable resistor setting can change, so once you have it adjusted to the setting you require, put a dob of silicone on it to stop it moving.
