Which Car/Which Battery

Submitted: Wednesday, Nov 13, 2002 at 00:00

oh no

Hi all... I am thinking about upgrading my old fourbie to something a bit newer....tossing up between a Prado and an NM Pajero. Most of the work will be on road, with off road consisting mainly of towing a camper trailer, sand/mud and lots of camping with a view to becoming a bit more adventurous in the future. Im looking at a diesel over a petrol, and like the more car like qualities of the Paj for the 95% of its use.

Also, I'm looking at a Bushranger powerpack to mainly run lights when camping...has anyone had good/bad experiences with this? They are much cheaper than the waeco and for the limited use I would give it, seems like good value.

Cheers

Or here:

Now what is the difference between the above:
Camper 1700 17ah $329.00
and this:
http://www.marlows.com.au/4062088.html
Power Pack Turbo A$88.00 4062088
Looks like you are paying $241.00 to much!
Remember, all this stuff is made in China and both carry a 12 month warranty. Looking at both, the Marlows unit offers substantially better value for money, as the Marlows unit also has a light and voltmeter.

The Power Pack Turbo offers portable 12 volt power for jump start and 12v accessories.
Unit operates at 900 AMP peak start power 17AH continuous use sealed lead acid battery.
The unit includes Light, Voltmeter and Cigarette Lighter output. The kit also contains a AC/DC 240 volt charger.
The Marlows unit appears to be far better value.

The prices these 4WD places charge, is just absolutely ridiculous. For example a 12v compressor, that is selling at $300 at a very well known 4WD drive chain, I bought at Marlows for $78.50 two weeks ago. Yes, we are talking 100% identical in every aspect. No, they are not on their website as they sold out.

Go armed with this page from Bushranger:

for:
Part No 55X02 Description Pro-Air Compressor (Available mid-late June) RRP 249.00
and go down to your Super Cheap Auto and compare the price on the *identical* product.

I looked at one the other day and decided against because of this. Shall recheck again today.
The Projecta model that K-Mart sell goes for around $149 and mine is still going strong after 4 years now.

I got a 17Ah battery pack from Supercheap for $59.95. Even if you have to replace the battery with a quality one for $100 then it's still better value than the Bushranger one (which probably has the cheap battery inside anyway).

Is that the latest model Paj you mean??

Friend with GU 4.5 Petrol went out with a guy to Walhalla area in a new Paj with borrowed MT's which were narrower or next size down from the std Paj tires, and No other mods, 2 weeks ago I think it was... He spent his whole time winching the Paj.

I PERSONALLY think the Prado is much better. Ive been out with Dave Z who runs the Prado list, and his car is running AT's and he went everywhere I did. Does help he is an outstanding offroad driver.

I know the Paris-Dakar Pajs only have the model name and Brand in common, but you would think that more would flow down to the street cars wouldnt you...

Driver skills have a lot to do with it too.

Oh and I also dislike the cheesy plastic chrome around the tail lights, LOOKS SOOOOooooooooooooooo cheap and nasty!

YMMV.
