Boesman - I did read somewhere that Toyota actually do it (but it pays not to believe all of what you read - especially on forums) - My only suggestion would be to contact your Toyota dealer and run it past them - this is the only way to be certain.

Not having a Prado, but interested in the problem, it makes me wonder if different 16" rims have a different clearance?
After all, the 16" is the rim, not the smallest dimension across the inside of the rims at the well.
Do different wheel manufacturers use different well depths?
After all, the depth of the well is to only assist in getting the tyre off the rim.

Would alloy rims have more material thickness than a steel rim at the bottom of the well?

If you are only looking for 2 to 3mm for clearance, do these points need considering?

You would need to get some sort of engineers certificate to make it legal but it would still void the warranty with Toyota on any vrake problem.

I spoke directly to toyota and they suggested it (there is a lancruser owners site that has pics of how to)

as you are only grinding off the part that they hold during casing the calipers it should not make a diff. But as David said it would probily void the warrenty on the brakes. What is a set of calipers worth buy a second set abd grind them off and if you have a problem put the originals back on (depend on how handy you are)

I'll be in the same situation soon as my tyres (original) are getting down and would prefer the options of 16in for off road trips and keep the 17's for around the black top.

I will repost if I can fid the site. I went there some months ago and it may be in one of the previos threads try a search.
