Speedo Correction

Submitted: Tuesday, Dec 03, 2002 at 00:00

Allyn

I've recently upgraded tyres to 285/75R16 and need to get my speedo reading altered.
Does anyone know the whereabouts of somebody in Perth who can sell me the right pieces of equipment?

Go to the franchised dealer of your vehicle brand and order the correct gear. There is normally a choice of about 4. The gear assy is normally under $100, and usually around $50 to $60.

The best way to see how much your speedo is incorrect, is to borrow a GPS. GPS will show you the correct speed with a maximum error of .15km. That .15km is regardless of the speed you are doing. That is the maximum error and worst case error.

Hi Allyn. This doesn't answer your question of where to get help but it may be of interest "www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html" Not quite as clever as Truckster with the link thingy :-)

Wayne.

If your car is a Patrol, Nissan have the gears available. They are under $20.

Would you know if the same sort of thing applies for my 1986 FJ60? After installing my GPS, I found out that it read under by exactly 10%.

G'day Allyn, you didn't mention make or model of vehicle. Is it a mechanical or electrical speedo drive from the transmission? The answers could be quite different! Cheers!
