Hi DJK
We have one and use it every time we go to
Double Island point on the beach, cost around $399 for the spear and another $254 or their about for the pump, the idea is to get fresh water and not the salty stuff, you can achieve this in most
places along the beach at the high tide mark, we usually put the spear in around the van and hook it up to the water outlet, that gives us water 7/24 under pressure for showers and if you find a good spot its cleaner than city tap water for drinking straight from the ground, to start: get a bucket of water from beach, reverse hose connection and start pump sucking water from bucket and slowly work spear in desired spot, you should be able to work spear in so as the top of spear is level with surface, then reverse hose again and star pump, if you are in a good position, should get clean fresh water, we hook the pump up to 12 volt outlet on van and just leave it their,
The only thing to remember is cover it up if going away from camp as they are sought after, and unfortunately others want them more, we actually back the van over the top that way at least it can’t be remover by the unknown,
Each to their own but we take ours everywhere.
I hope this helps some what.
