Rodeo 2.8l TD - Intercooled??

Like to hear from anyone who has intercooled their Rodeo 2.8TD. Interested in hearing if the figures quoted by some manufacturers ie: 74kw to 96kw are realistic and also preformance wise, how does it fair.
I've made some tentative enquiries and have been pointed towards a front mounted unit and a 3" system.

Hi Jack, I have a ,96 TF space cab with a steel tray that i use to carry my tools of trade [agricultural mechanic] The beast weighs in at 2.3 tonne. It has a fairly large custom made front mount intercooler and standard exhaust .I cant compare dyno figures but it goes much better than a standard Rodeo, torque seems to come in at much lower revs [1900 compared to 2400] also off the mark pull is a lot better.Fuel economy is around the 9klm/lt pretty good for weight and the hard driving I do. I think a large bore exhaust would also help a lot. My vehicle has travelled 260000 klm and has had no problems.

Hi Dan It was on the vehicle whe i bought it so i do not know the history. The intercooler sits between the aircon condensor and the grille, it is fabricated from alluminium and is as wide as the radiator and about half as deep. The plumbing has been cut and welded from exhaust tubing and mandrill bends , some flexible pipes appear to be radiator hose bends but they have held up fine for the 60,000k i have owned it, Apart from the cooler itself, it could be done DIY if you had the facilities eg. mig welder.
Regards Ken.

Jack,
I have a 1995 2.8td dual cab.
The figures quoted are realistic, the prices are not.
What I have done is fit a 2.5inch exhaust system from the turbo back, I then when and had the fuel pump aneroid adjusted to suit. this was carried out by MTQ in Toowoomba QLD. The difference in low down torque/ driveability is very good, it now climbs up Cunninghams Gap in 4th where as before it was flat to the floor in 3rd and struggling, will also accellerate up the GATEWAY BRIDGE in brissy in 4th and reach 100kph before the top, much nicer vechicle to drive.
fuel consumption on road is the same as before the adjustment, it is a bit heavier on fuel off road that it used to be.
Prices $380 for the exhaust, $125 for the adjustment and dyno runs (took 50mins)
Rear wheel power went from 55kw to 66kw.
Hope this helps.
