Hi from the B@astards.....

Al & Mrs Al (Vic)

Hi Everyone,

We are thouroughly enjoying our Gulf Tour. We have camped in some sensational places, Welford National Park - camping on the Barcoo River was simply superb.

We are enjoing the beautiful weather here in Normanton, and last night spent the evening relaxing in the Sunset Tavern at Karumba Point watching the sun go down over the Gulf of Carpentaria.

We have seen some interesting things, including a crocodile statue here in Normanton that is an exact replica of one caught in 1957 that is over 8 meters long...we have just taken pics of the kids sitting in its mouth...truly hard to believe.

The driving has been GREAT, and we have only one hairy time driving up to Normanton from the Burke and Wills Roadhouse when the rain was falling and the sides of the road were really really slippery, so slippery that when we were stopped off the side of the road to let a roadtrain go through, we were sliding down the bank.

Tomorrow we head to Burketown for a couple of days and then on to Kingfisher Camp and Lawn Hill NP.

We are all well and enjoying each others company immensily, and our three youngest travellers/explorers are just being joys.

One of the funniest events so far has been Al falling into the Surprise Creek - Bladensburg National Park when he was attempting to fill a bucket of water for a shower, it was noted that the person who did not spring to his aid was me..hahahha...

now....it is off to the pool for me....

cheers and safe travels to everyone.

Lyn

Enjoy...

I don't know why I do this.

Here I am sitting at home with no prospect of an extended trip. So I switch on the puter to find people like you gloating about the great time you are having while I sit here bored.

When you get home I am going to go somewhere, I don't know where yet, but it will be somewhere you want to go, I hope. Then I am going to post on this and every other site just how much fun I am having while you get ready for work.

Seriously though, despite my obvious jealousy, I hope your trip gets better every day. That may be hard to achieve 'cause the first bit sounds pretty good.

Have fun

G'day Lyn,
We know that area well.....I posted an update on a PC at that same Library when we were there last October.....just to make everyone down south jealous!!! hahaha And now you're doing it to ME. Buggar!!!!
That sure is a huge croc.......we liked the way they say on the plaque that it was "caught"..............strewth, the flamin' thing was SHOT, not caught!!! They used the "caught" word so the kiddies wouldn't get upset. BTW, it was SHOT by a woman too.
We have piccies of each our kids in it's mouth (I suppose every visitor to the town has done the same thing).
We managed to get kicked out of the Sunset Tavern when we were there, cos we had the audacity to buy fish n chips over the road and sit out on the Tavern's lawn to eat them while we drank booze from there. We moved about 10 feet to the north (closer to the car park area) and sat just outside the white barrier.
Gr8 spot!!!!!!!
Enjoy the rest of your trip you lucky bleep s...lolololol

I'm not jealous. I know there are zillions of grey nomads cluttering up every town and rest spot in northern Australia. Some of the rest spots are bigger communities than the next town ! Rekkon I'd get to Karumba and meet my next door neighbours.
I was going to camp on the Barcoo but the sign said I had to have my own loo. Besides, the traffic noise wouldn't of suited me :))
