Andrew, stay away from monotube in any brand if you are fitting onto a 4x4 or even 2WD that travels regularly on dirt roads.

With monotube the piston inside the shock is running INSIDE the tube that you can see. This means that any small dent from a stone will render the shock unuseable.
With twin tube or tripple tube a dent wont affect the operation of the piston because it is running inside another internal tube.

Put simply - monotube is only one piece of tube, twintube is one inside another and trippletube is 3 tubes inside each other.

Bilstein and also Koni both make some exelent shocks, but their monotube designs are not suited to our dirt roads where shock damage from flying stones destroys them. For any vehicle that is always on sealed roads - no problem.

I've had bilstein shocks fitted to an old Range Rover and I must admit they were the best purchase I have made for a long time and well worth the extra dollars. They travelled extensively through the Kimberley and Territory region and were particularly good on the dirt and I remember inadvertently going airbourne on a "blind" dip and what could have ended up flipping the car didn't due (in part) to the performance of the shocks. They certainly mated well with the Landrover/Range Rover vehicle - I'm not sure what they are like in a Pajero though.

Thanks for your advice everyone,i am still undecided.Theirs an interesting article in septembers 4x4 australia by ron moon.It says that the bilstein monotube shockies were great on the landcruiser 100 series in the bush, far better than konis or xgs.
