Greetings all

Anyone out there with experience on Falkon Tyres from Japan.
Looks like I can get my sticky little paws on a set of 235/85 MT's for about $100 LESS per corner that BFG or Wranglers, so they've gotta be worth thinking about.

Any experiences good or bad ??

Cheers

Probably not much help Rosco but i'll tell you anyway, i have the Falkon Landair ATs on my camper, i asked about them before buying them and found no bad reports on any of the ATs or MTs so got them, i got a bargin with mine too considering they retail for about $250 each, mine were $140.

I've only had them on a road car Cob.

It was an XR8 originally fitted with Pirellis and I found the Falken's better, particulalrly in the wet.

Can't comment on their off road tyres but I'd happily give them a try.

Cheers,

Jim.

No Bruce,

I said they were great in the wet. Less wheelspin under accelleration and better braking in the wet than the Pirelli's.

I have a set of Falken A/T's (31x10.5x15) on at the moment, they are the worst set of tyres I've ever had!
Make that the second worst! Desert Duellers were the worst!
They have zero grip in the wet, compared to the last set of worn tyres I had on (el'cheapo Chinese somethings!)
These crap Falkens are always locking a rear, under brakes. They squeal like mad in the dry, just all round crapola!
I've tried them with just about all combinations of pressures between 30-40PSI??
They cost me about $140-150 they have a road type pattern, but larger blocks and grooves than H/T's.
They are super quiet though, and ride a bit better.

I just can't wait till they wear out! I reckon they'll be shot by about 70-80thousand K's.
(the 2 sets of Chinese tyres I've had since I got the Rodeo lasted me 120K and 110K Klms. The first set would have lasted longer if I rotated them.
Best 4By tyre I've experienced was the Pirelli scorpion.
Currently 99.9%, of my driving is on road, as a courier.
I just don't get any time to get out and about!

This is not a qualified test, just an expression of an opinion.
Falken - never again, Cheapo Chinese - best value for money!

Arthur

Thanks for the posting, from this and other research, I'm beginning to think I should steer clear.

Only other point of interest .. had Pirelli Scorpions on a previous Disco and I reckoned they were absolute crap and some older Duellers I had on an MQ many yonks ago were bloody good, though I've heard they've gone down hill since. No telling heh??

Cheers cob

Hi Rosco,
My scorpions were the old FD44's.
The first gen from 10+ years ago(narrower 205/215 size), with the cross tread pattern, not the S/T's or the wide 10.5's. On a Rangie!
The Duellers were the earlier pattern too, 15+ years ago, not the latest generation (which I'm told are much much better too!)
But I have principles to maintain :)
I have a bad experience, I won't go back for more. Not when it involves MY money!
If I happen to drive a vehicle with brand X tyres and it drives well, then I'll consider them (again).
Also back on the Falken I had a set on a Rover Vandenplas. They were fantastic!
Also I may have exaggerated a bit about my A/T's, guiven that I paid about $145, they compared well to the Chinese (RoadChamp and Chin Shen??) tyres.
As a courier, every % of performance makes a big difference to me.
At $145 they are worth considering, if the RRP is $250 no way!
given less demanding requirements they would be ideal. No road noise is wonderful.
My Saab has 50 series tyres and generates 10x more tyre noise :(

Just a side note: both sets of Chinese tyres did need to have about 4kg :) of weights to balance properly. (bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea!)
One tyre dealer(independent) commented on the number of weights, and the difficulty of balancing, having gone there for just a rotation/balance!
The Falkens look much more normal in this regard, which looks kind of weird now, as after 2 years with so many balance weights around the rim!!
Just a perspective on Chinese v's Japanese manufacturing processes ;)
But I never had a problem with the Chinese!
Except when I had 1 flat after 120000 Klms because the rear tyres was down to the belts in the centre of the tread area! But almost full tread on the outer edges! Like over inflation, but with 36psi at all times!
Like I said earlier these (front) tyres were still servicable. I kept them for a trailer or just as vehicle spares, but had to dump them when I had no room for them as a load I had wouldn't fit with them in the back :(

My apologies!
I lied!
I just pulled out the receipt and the Falkens I have are C/T's and not A/T's!
They cost me $148.50.

I hope this doesn't affect any opinions or decisions.

But they are still crap in the wet!

Rosco,

I will confuse the issue and go against the trend. Had a set of Falken A/T 31X10.5X15 on a GQ Patrol, had a good run out of them, 70,000Kms, very quiet, capable of road, very good on road. (Estimate 70% bitumen work) Would buy another set.

Regards,
Greg
