The scam has been around for a number of years now. This is how it works.
You get a reply to your ad wanting more details and best price.
You respond.
They come back to say it looks good and will it be OK to send you a cheque.
You say OK but nothing will happen until the cheque is cleared
They reply by saying that they will send you a cheque for double the amount as you must forward the balance to their 'shipper'...which is a fictitious person somewhere.
The cheque arrives and you bank it. Because of Australian Banking laws a cheque must be cleared within one week. But the full clearance takes a month
The cheque clears within a week.
You draw a cheque and send the amount to the 'shipper' of the vehicle
Nothing happens.
You send follow up emails. Still nothing happens and no one comes to collect the vehicle
A month passes and the bank rings you to say that the cheque has bounced. You now owe the bank for the cheque to the shipper, the dishonour fee and any other funds you have drawn against the cheque
YOU HAVE BEEN SUCKED IN !!!!!!!!
Recently I advertised my Toyota in the
Trader section and received 7 enquiries. Six were from overseas and dodgy. The seventh was an EO Member who ultimately bought the vehicle.
Please advise David of the dodgy emails and he will block their addresses
Cheers
