Inskip Peninsula

Spade Newsom

Thinking of a trip to Inskip Peninsula in two weeks for 4 - 5 days having never been in the area before.
Camping in off road camper trailer with the three pre teen (travel savvy) kids.
Main interests are relaxing, fishing, swimming and bush/beach walking.
Self sufficiency rating 4/5.

Any readers been to the area and and recommend or otherwise any of the camp grounds. Particularly interested in how busy school holidays might be.

All comments welcome.

School holidays = packed, get in early.
Take plenty of aeroguard, the mossies and midgies are pretty hungry.
Easy 4x4 access to rainbow and cooloola beaches, fresh water track and kings bore track are interesting drives.
Get the Cooloola region map and a tide chart.
There has been an algeal bloom along the beaches up there for the last 2 yrs which doesnt smell the best and stuffs up beach fishing quite well. Not always in the same place every day and worse with an onshore wind.
This probably all sounds doom and gloom, far from it, its a great place. The only downside is 98% of the population agree with this and only get the time to do it during school holidays.
Youll enjoy it regardless.

Hi Mate
I was there last weekend ,always plenty of people there,take your time & you will find a good camp site.I go there quite often ,my favourite sites are on the surf side of the road, turn in just past the lead light(white triangle on a post in bush not far from getting on barges to fraser island)& head towards beach. There is a 4x4 comes around each morning with bread milk paper& other small goods.As for mossies & sand flies not there last weekend but be prepared they can get bad at sunrise & dusk.

We had a week off work and decided to go north, ended up at Elliott Heads in caravan park...not to our cup of tea...beautiful spot...if had more time would have gone further but decided to come back to Inskip Point, so glad we did. Wasn't busy then but it does get very busy in school holidays. We took a tinnie and did some fishing in the bay. The highlight of the fishing trip was the dugong that appeared around the tinnie feeding on the sea grass, spectacular sight. Sorry, answer to your question 'yes' to all your interests. Happy hour, watching the sunset, dinner cooking in the camp-oven, mozzies, midgies, rid....we love it!

Had a "bragging" phone call last night from a mate who is a member of the SmellyFingerFishingClub currently camped at Inskip ,slaying "horse" whiting ,largest so far=41cm ,pick the moon+tide.

My favourite eating fish whiting. Never heard of one that big. Must breed them well down south. Great fun to catch too. Not quite as fun as a 100 lb GT.
