Cooper S/T Tyres

I'm not here to comment on warranties or any such thing.

I drive a Terracan, with lift (and give it a fair workout off road), and due to the size of the OE tyres, the choices are limited. In the end, the only tyre available in a reasonably agressive tread pattern at a fair price (got the best deal at Ironman Suspension, Melbourne) was the Cooper S/T.

I had Toyo Opat A/T's fitted from new and they're a road oriented A/T.

The difference is incredible. Having just done a weeekend through some serious mud, I never slipped around once. By comparison the Toyos would have been all at sea.

And they're reasonably quiet on road. Just a mild hum which can be eliminated with moderate stereo volume.

There may be better off road tyres available, but these are very good.

Don't worry about Ironman honouring their warranty, I had my front shocks replaced twice and my rear once under warrranty within the first 8 months. They offered to upgrade to Foam Cells at no extra cost, but in the end came to the party and refunded my money for all four shocks. I run OME's now and won't look back.

They look good - they are quiet - read and understand your warranty - You did get one - I hope - ask for some guidance on their suggested pressures under different conditions.

Keep an eye out for chipping and hope you dont tear off any lugs

Good stuff Jimbo. Many bag the ST's however I have had them on the Pathy for a while now and they have performed well in all conditions. Just make sure you are careful with pressures and if in doubt go lower off road - has worked for me.

Hope you get a good run out of them like I have. What size did you get? I have 245/75/16's. Reason I ask - if you need to carry an extra spare on any trips and you have the same size I have 8 of them so can lend 1 or 2 to you as needed.

Have seen you have been getting out and about heaps lately - I am sure you'll feel more sure footed chasing Diamond down now with the Coopers :)

I looked at the 245/75's but the overall diameter exceeded the legal limit. Thanks for the offer.

I tend to run 40psi on the road, 23psi on formed tracks, 20psi in mud and rock. This is for a 10 ply Cooper ST. These pressures have worked well for me. Have also gone down to around 16psi when really slippery and this pressure has worked well.

Hi Jim ,Ive got S\Ts on my patrol,Im very impressed with them so far.Ive mainly been using them in sand,but would love to try them out in mud.I have no problem with the road noise

Hi Jim. How is the grip on road in the wet compare to the previous? Just curious - I got fine tyres, but when purchasing I skipped the STs thinking they wouldn't grip as much there as I needed (my requirements being what they are).

Hey Jim, having had the S/Ts my choice if going for Coopers would be the ST/Cs, if the budget allows of coarse, no trouble after getting the S/Ts replaced under warrenty.

I have had Coopers for quite a while now. I had the back two replaced under warranty from chipping (but in their defence they had a tough life doing Googs, Gawler Rangers, Flinders and all of Birdsville usual tracks carrying alot of weight). I now have Cooper ST up front and ST-C down back. I noticed that someone was interested to know how they go in the mud. I have done some mud work and found that as a combo it worked quite well. I did notice though that the ST-C was very good at self cleaning whereas the ST was not as good (due to the closer tread). For that reason I would not class them as "great" if doing mud work (compared to other tread patterns out on the market).
