Hi all, had the misfortune today to watch a mate lose nearly 150lts of diesel.
he had run over a largish rock that dented his fuel tank, right on the seam.
the result was a multitude of pinprick holes, with no way to stop the leaks. Is there any products on the market that can make temporary repairs to fuel tanks, both aluminium and steel?

rick.
So many choices

I have been told chewing gum works, I think only on petrol though.
Untested and probably an old wives tale - never had to try it myself though.

I have heard the cake of soap thing - you mash soap into the holes by rubbing a cake of soap over the holes. Apparently it works a treat and lasts quite some time.

Always found minties the best. You know the white sweets.

Need to be slightly warm such as off the dash or a couple of chews, and push them in and around the hole. Seem to stick pretty well to the tank and dry hard.

Came across the idea on our cape trip in 1992 with 7 small cracks in the fuel tank on the folds. Seemed to be stress fractures and only happened on corrugations with more than 3/4 of a tank. Had a packet in the car and the kids used to let them fall out of the packet. Noticed that soft ones were hard to remove off the floor.

Repairs lasted us until we got home, and another 20,000k around brisy until I could afford a replacement tank.
