Explorer Tyres

I am suffering a crisis in confidence in the Firestones fitted to my my Explorer. They were not in the recall program and I'm 2 young to die! I have asked Ford about replacing them but for some "reason" they have not got back to me (funny about that).
Has any one fitted Coopers or any other brand? Does any one else have an Explorer? We are heading off across the Simpson in a couple of weeks (maybe I should swim) and need to make a decision soon.

If you read the press you will see that Firestone are now trying to put the blame back on the design of the Explorer!

I have had one tyre suffer a stone rupture, just outside of Birdsville.
I understand this is the main problem when the tyres get warm.
