The RB30 had a rev limiter in the distributor it would be interesting to know if anybody found out if that affected fuel consumption and or performance because some rb 30s get great consumption and some got average consumption (extractors did help as well) but what of the dizzy and wether the rev limiter has been disabled in some of the more economical rb30s - a question I throw open to debate??

I am interested in your comments re 2nd butterfly - what did you do to free this up? I haven't revved over 4,500 so assume rev limiter issue is really non issue. Also bit more info on vacuum secondaries would be appreciated. I have disconnected electric choke.

to free buterflies up i remover carby 4 nuts and about 5 mins bought a can of carby cleaner sprayed and left for a while and slowly twisted butterfly then more spray and more twisting untill it was free took a few goes as for vaccume theres a little arm from vaccume pump conected to the butterfly with a little circlip just remove the clip and if you manually move the main butterfly you will see where a liitle arm actually hits the secondary butterfly thats where i twisted a small spring.and twisted it in to position from the main to secondary butterfly so you can still drive with only the main butterffly or when you put the boot in it will open hard to explain without showing you but if you pull the carb off should be able to see.also mine revs to 6500 with out a hastle

Nigel will rev to 6-7000 rpm but depends on the motor - very high revving motors usually most of the powerband is between 3800 to 5800
What do you get around town fuel consumption wise??

I've got a 91 RB30 patrol, from new, it has 230,000km and have never been able to get any more than about 16-17 mpg or 17.5l/100km. I've had a bit of work done on the carby- remove the heater grid, bring secondarys in quicker, extractors and advance timing. All improved power and torque but did nothing for the fuel economy. My problem might be the extra weight- water tank, long range fuel tank, rear _Affordable_Storage_Drawers.aspx etc but really don't know. Wish I could get what the others above state.

Thanks Ray. I too have aux fuel tank and when loaded am operating close to GVM? Linkages appear to "stick" in damp cold start up coinditions. Once warm a bit of tampering around carby seems top alleviate/ fix problem for rest of day. I notice I only have this problem on the black top ergo shake rattle and roll!
I am now going to explore all the advice given and will report back idc.
I have experimented with Hiclone and agree with forum comments elsewhere. More power when stationary! Am intending to try reversing snorkel!
