has anyone adapted a Marlows "Grunter" compressor to allow mounting within the vehicle ie the removal of the existing hose and the addition of say a bayonet fitting which would facilitate a removable hose ??

Sorry don't know but, have you bought a "grunter"? Are they the same size as the small Super Cheap ones (around $70) or the same looking but much larger ones (around $140)? Been through the archives and damned confused. Do you have a TradeTools type shop in your town. They carry lots of compressor related stuff. Don't know about for smaller compressors. Hobby shops / art supplies use small compressors for airbrushing. They would possibly be more likely to have something.

The Grunter is the identical power unit to the SuperCheap $149.00 unit. The difference is the SuperCheap comes in a quite reasonable bag, 5 metres of self retracting coil hose, the pressure gauge on the air chuck. Peronally, not worth the extra price over the Grunter.

Good on ya Truckster. Give me a break. Done the Search thing, read all the stuff about how good twin blue tongues were, but after looking at the Marlows site and going to Super Cheap, was a bit concerned about the 35l/min rating which is the same as the smaller Super Cheap one. The bigger one was something like 45l/min. Was hoping for confirmation from a "Grunter" owner before I ordered one and was disappointed when it turned up and was the same as the smaller one....that's all. SORRY MATE! Like your work anyway.

I have also gone through all the info and not so informative data on this site and others to determine what compressor to buy. I took a punt on a Grunter, and have added a 6m-coiled hose (removable connector).
Fittings are not STD size, but local bearing shop had parts (country Vic).
This compressor is the same as Repco (on special for $99) with hose and bag.
Once you add the price of quality hose to Grunter, the price is close.
It does have a metal piston, and has worked well on my Coopers 235/85/R16's, taking 2 min to get from 20 psi to 35.
The air gauge on the Grunter is not reliable, always check with another.
