I see by your pic you were allowed to drive on a beach, (I envy that) its been along time since its been ok to drive on a beach up this way.

On the other hand there are the greenies and the like who are a very strong lobby group who, just the same as Greenpeace and others, have an agenda to save some of this country and the world from the environmental massacre that is happening today.

Somewhere in this lot we poor recreationalists come in and and we are slowly but surely being denied the freedoms our ancestors enjoyed. Big Business and the New World Order is slowly converting our lives to that of subservience to the state, but very few see this.

I have been lucky to have lived in an era of reasonable free movement and have taken advantage of this. Now I am in my senior years and I am pushing to see as much as I can of this land before it is closed off by decree. When I was in my 30's and 40's I was involved in the FWD Association, the Environment Council and other land management associations. Now I don't have the energy for it. It is up to the younger generation to take over and put their input in to society.

The pic on the beach is in WA. There you may still drive on the beach. South Australian beaches are also open to drivers as the State realises the tourist potential to activate business in this, the driest and underpopulated state of Australia.

I have nothing against the Wilderness Society or other environmental groups as in the overall picture ,they do manage to save some of the land from willful degradation.

In WA all beachers are open if you can get onto them, I have found myself on Trigg beach (Suburban surfing beach in Perth) one night at about 2am, my figuring was the Counsel 4WD’s can drive on it so I can’t see any resin why I can’t LOL.

Would think twice about it, before doing it during the daytime But.

I have a group of friend’s who one night decided it would be a good idea to go for a quick spin along Swanbourne (another suburban Perth beach) beach at 1.00am on full tyre pressure got about 50 metres and bogged both cruisers and had no recovery gear 2 hrs later they got off the beach. LMAO.

Yeah SA's geographical location still turns off a lot of business investments but we have a lot that other states dont have and envy.

I'm 41 and I want to tour this whole country soon before all the good destinations become out of bounds to recreational users.
If I wait until I retire I'm afraid that fuel will be too expensive and like you said we'll have to experience it all through some God forsaken virtual website!
Hmmm.
But I dont want to be like most people of my era who are so uncertain about the future that they just take as much as they can get from this world for fear of missing out without caring about the debt and responsibility, and end up in a rut anyway (I'm hearing that Queen song "I want it all" in my head now), but on the other hand I cant see myself being in a position to do it soon unless I can convince the missus we should pack up and go on a working holiday for a few years.
So Willem what are some organisations that have input and influence over recreational land use these days?

Of all my favourite salmon fishing beaches the only one with beach access was talia beach.
I have driven the full length of just about every beach from Esperance to Point culver. Certainly the Number one state for beach driving.
As for logging old growth forests Every tree was cut down for 100s of ks Around the goldfields to feed varocias roasters and for ground support. But you wouldnt know it now. AFAIK local tree dont have a particulary long lifespan as far as trees go as they succomb to termites

I am not up to date with these issues, mate. The AN4WDC is supposed to be looking after our interests but somehow I think that they have just become a bureaucracy shuffling paper around.

4x4 recreationalists complain a lot but there is little evidence that they do something about it.

Individual 4x4 clubs do have some measure of communication with National Parks on a Statewide basis and try to counter the move to 'Close everything off'.

The more affluent people in the world, the more people buying recreational vehicles, the more pressure there is on the environment, the more environmentalists there will be pushing their agendas, the more the media will find a scapegoat, the more 'entrepreneurs' there will be trying to suck a dollar from the tourists. ............somewhere along the line the bubble is going to burst.

As for the beach driving there is access from the mouth of the Murray to Carpenters Rocks and beyond in the south........quite a sizeable area for beach access. There are also areas of access on the Eyre Peninsula.

After moving to Adelaide I spent most of my Holiday time back there Fishing Areas from Pt Licoln North especially the Sheringa, Talia, Dolphins and locks Wells beaches as well as around Streaky bay. When I didnt have the time to go that far I would head to the Bottom of the yorke penninsula fishing places like browns Beach and the Southern end of Formby bay. After moving to Adelaide I found it hard to Enjoy myself in the City environment or find decent paying work and spent a fair bit of time driving to fishing or shooting spots .
Since moving to WA I have found life alot more enjoyable being able to combine country living with decent pay and access to great beaches

My biggest concern is Pastoral property now that really is one section that locks out vast ares and degrades the land- mostly because they dont allow shooting and the goats run absalllllutly feral

Aaaah but goats are generally regarded as a no-cost source of income for the landholder. The bigger pastoralists probably would'nt worry about it but a lot of the smaller guys certainly do.

Yea but there only a source of income if ya round the damn things up (no where near as easy as sheep) I was driving around with a cocky and he commented and showed me all the damage the goats were doing, So I commented on shooting (slyyly testing the waters ) and he has a no shooting policy so the things run rampant all over the station sure the occasional roundup takes place but it doesnt seem to make a dent in the goat population.

Unfortunately once they've started a no shooting policy it's damn difficult to get them to change their minds. Usually stems from a bad experience either they have had or someone they know has had. Like every other activity, the irresponsible ones stuff it up for everyone else.

You've just got to stay on good terms with the landowners, help them out wherever you can and show them you're responsible. Sometimes it pays off.
