Submitted: Sunday, Dec 04, 2005 at 12:43

Brett

Am searching for a Weber or Holley carby to fit up to a 60 series landcruiser.
Am also looking for a decent alternator ( presently only has a 45 amp)

Much better to stick with the standard carby as Holley's do not work well off road on steep climbs and angles and bumpy sections. They can be modified but on the whole more trouble than it is worth.
Work well on the road though. BTDT as they say.
Never seen webers on cruiser motor.
Alternator can be from anythingas long as it is 12v, can either use existing regulator or use internal one that may come with another alternator.

Its hassles and cash to get a holley on there if you dont already have one. Adapters for the manifold, changing the accellerator cable connections and movements, a new air filter box or adapter to existing....
I machined up my own adapter from a blank, but even after it was all done and installed there were still problems with the auto choke and fast idle. I'd recommend a rebuild on your existing one- you at least know it will work and tune perfectly when you bolt it back in.
Quokka has a number of holley 500s for around $50-$100.

Get a Weber from an Xf Falcon they are a good carby, and any decent Tig welder can fill the bolt holes and then you just redrill the manifold to suit the weber, I did this Mod to a Sixty series (2F) Engine, and it made a big difference to starting, low rev response, and gave much better fuel consumtion, especially when towing a caravan. did not need to change jets, The Throttle cable can be changed to suit
fairly easily. cheers
